A hydrostatic transmission uses the power from a prime mover, such as the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine, to operate a hydrostatic pump motor. So, the rotary motion from the engine is used to pressurize fluid, which is then directed towards a hydrostatic drive motor. To accommodate the pressurized fluid, the pistons of the drive motor have to start moving, thus creating a rotational motion which turns the wheels.
The fluid used is generally oil. The pressure and amount of fluid sent to the drive motor dictates the speed at which the wheels move. This is controlled by a swashplate, which is operated by a hand lever on the equipment. When the swashplate is vertical, no fluid is sent to the motor, and it is not operated. When the swashplate is rotated backwards when the vehicle is in motion, it has a slowing effect. The hydrostatic transmission is a closed-loop circuit, where the fluid exiting from the drive motor outlet is returned to the hydrostatic pump without being sent to the tank.
In this circuit, the input drive is the hydrostatic pump connected to the prime mover, and the output drive is the drive motor which is connected to the load. The hydraulic pump, drive motor, and other components are all enclosed in a common housing, with the motor and the pump sharing a common valve.
This enclosed assembly is then bolted to an axle. This type is compact and ideal for applications with space constraints, besides being economical. In this type, the hydraulic pump and motor are placed in separate locations, but are interconnected by high-pressure hoses or pipes.
Being more powerful, it is used in industrial applications where the required space is available. This type involves either a variable prime mover or flow-control valves, which help control the speed. Since the pump has a fixed displacement, it has to be of the appropriate size to be able to turn the motor. When I am on an incline, traveling on the side of incline I lose almost all power in the lever that is closest to the bottom of the incline, the mower will not keep the hill it will turn and drive down the hill. I also have issue when I am doing a lot of zero turn type of mowing. I seem to lose power on one side it varies from right to left side. If I mow wide open in a straight line the mower does fine. Messages: 2, Sounds like your pump belt is loose. It is just one belt controlling both pumps, so it gives that feeling when it is slipping, or bouncing on the pulleys.
On the right side of the rear by the wheel you will see a long bolt going to your pump idler spring. Just tighten up the tension with the 2 nuts on it if your belt feels loose to your hand. On the extreme side, just check around for leaks on the fluid, and check your tank to make sure it is full, I have lost power on hills due to my reservoir tank being low too. If those two don't work, jack up the rear end, and work your levers while watching your lines to see if there are air bubbles in the lines, that could cause eratic behavior in driving sometimes too.

I put on a new belt and got a tranny from a neighbors mower that I know is good and is the same stock Tuff Torq K The replacement was exactly the same with the same dimensions, mounting points and pulley. My mower now goes about half the speed as new.
The belt is routed correctly, the new belt is the correct number and is stamped on the side. The new belt is not Husqvarna, but is listed as an OEM replacement.
The tensioner spring is pulling the pulley all the way back, I can push the pulley no more than a couple of millimeters further than the spring is pulling it. The belt does seem too loose, I don't know how much slack should be in it, but there's a good 1 inch to 1 and half inch of play on the long section without the tensioner. What am I missing? Follow the rod connecting the forward pedal back to the transmission.
Too much in one direction gave tremendous forward speed, and little to no reverse speed. Too much in the other direction gave me neck whipping reverse, and NO forward at all. This might be something you can look into. What transaxle does it have? There will be a sticker under the seat with either hydro-gear or tuff torq on it. And sometimes Also, if this is the first use this season and the unit was stored in the free wheel mode, refer to your owner's manual to the "purge trans" procedure. Long term storage in free wheel mode sometimes allows the hydro oil to drain out of the pump and motor sections inside the trans.
If you fail to perform a purge trans procedure before using after long term storage, the air in the pump and motor will prevent operation of the trans. If it seems there is nothing wrong with the linkage, check to make certain the trans belt has not jumped off or broken and if all that is good, do a purge of trans.
