The Oracle Data Pump Import utility is used to load an export dump file set into a target database. The dump file set is made up of one or more disk files that contain table data, database object metadata, and control information.

The files are written in a proprietary, binary format. During an import operation, the Data Pump Import utility uses these files to locate each database object in the dump file set.

Import can also be used to load a target database directly from a source database with no intervening dump files. This is known as a network import. Data Pump Import enables you to specify whether a job should move a subset of the data and metadata from the dump file set or the source database in the case of a network importas determined by the import mode.

This is done using data filters and metadata filters, which are implemented through Import commands.

These parameters can be specified either on the command line or in a parameter file.

SYSDBA is used internally and has specialized functions; its behavior is not the same as for general users. The redo that is generated in such a case is generally for maintenance of the master table or related to underlying recursive space transactions, data dictionary changes, and index maintenance for indices on the table that require logging. Parameter File Interface: Enables you to specify command-line parameters in a parameter file. The use of parameter files is recommended if you are using parameters whose values require quotation marks. Interactive-Command Interface: Stops logging to the terminal and displays the Import prompt, from which you can enter various commands, some of which are specific to interactive-command mode.

When the source of the import operation is a dump file set, specifying a mode is optional. If no mode is specified, then Import attempts to load the entire dump file set in the mode in which the export operation was run. The mode is specified on the command line, using the appropriate parameter.

The available modes are described in the following sections. When you import a dump file that was created by a full-mode export, the import operation attempts to copy the password for the SYS account from the source database.

This sometimes fails for example, if the password is in a shared password file.

Thanks for your answer. In our case separate imports would work, so I think there is no need for an ER. However, I believe the documentation should be improved. However, different source schemas can map to the same target schema. Note that the mapping may not be percent complete; see the Restrictions section below.

If the schema you are remapping to does not already exist, then the import operation creates it, provided that the dump file set contains the necessary CREATE USER metadata for the source schema, and provided that you are importing with enough privileges.

Reading this, in my mind "source" meant "in the dump file" and "target" meant "in the database", especially if impdp will try to create the target in case it does not exist rather than matching it with some source and then doing something else.

Since it seems not to be the case, the logic should be clearly stated and justified maybe there is an interesting use case for the implemented behaviour that I am missingtogether with the restrictions should all the intermediate schema names between the real source and target exist somewhere, or are they treated just as dummy labels? It only takes a minute to sign up. I'm using Oracle 11g database in which I have more than 12 schema's consisting of many tables. I've created sequences for primary keys to these tables.

I've also created synonyms to refer my application from the main schema. My issue is, while i try to export using expdp the schema's from DB in 1 server and import impdp the dump file to db installed in another server, sequence values only for some tables are getting changed. Even if i try to remap the table space or schemas, the value of sequence shows a lesser value than rows in their respective tables.

Due to which when i access the application it throws an error while saving the data. I am confused and don't getting an idea to solve this. Please advise. Is their any method to solve this issue?

For example, if the sequence object is exported before the table and the application has inserted new records using the sequence and exported later then table and sequence can be out of sync.

This is because the unprivileged dump files do not contain the necessary information for the import to create the schema automatically. If the import operation does create the schema, then after the import is complete, you must assign it a valid password to connect to it. The SQL statement to do this, which requires privileges, is:.

Unprivileged users can perform schema remaps only if their schema is the target schema of the remap. Privileged users can perform unrestricted schema remaps. The mapping may not be percent complete because there are certain schema references that Import is not capable of finding. For example, Import will not find schema references embedded within the body of definitions of types, views, procedures, and packages. If any table in the schema being remapped contains user-defined object types and that table changes between the time it is exported and the time you attempt to import it, then the import of that table will fail.

However, the import operation itself will continue. By default, if schema objects on the source database have object identifiers OIDsthen they are imported to the target database with those same OIDs. If an object is imported back into the same database from which it was exported, but into a different schema, then the OID of the new imported object would be the same as that of the existing object and the import would fail. You can connect to the scott schema after the import by using the existing password without resetting it.

If user scott does not exist before you execute the import operation, then Import automatically creates it with an unusable password. This is possible because the dump file, hr. The problem was I had previously loaded the tables and sequences into this user id, then I removed the tables by droping the tablespace and recreating it however since sequences are in the system tablespace and not the user tablespace they were not also dropped.

I have been doing the same process for our dev machines for the last few years, using Oracle I basically increment each of the problem sequences byand then set the increment value back down to 1.

In our case, we see Primary Key constraint errors. Over time, I have added each of the sequences that has shown a PK constraint error to my script. Every once in a while, I'll get caught off guard by a new PK constraint error, and will have to adjust the script and add the new sequence.

I'm considering creating a variation that increments every sequence, which would prevent any new PK constraint errors from cropping up. I've always found it odd that Oracle doesn't have a way to correct this, nor have I found an "easy" solution from anyone on the net. It would be some script that queried each max id and compared it to the current sequence value, and increment it the difference. I've also heard of a way to run expdp export datapump with some sort of "state" variable, that causes it to maintain the state of things throughout the export.
